RESUME
James was born and raised in Lawrenceville, Georgia where his love of storytelling began early. Fostered by his father’s love of film, what began as family reenactments of favorite movie scenes quickly became a life’s vocation.
In 2012, James received a B.F.A. in Theatre from Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia, where he was recognized by the 2010 Bibbi Hammond Extraordinary Theatre Student Scholarship and the 2012 Outstanding Theatre Major Award. James received a full Assistantship to teach Undergraduate Theatre and Acting coursework at the University of Arkansas while earning his M.F.A. in Acting.
Odom has recently worked at Virginia Stage Company, Tuachan Center for the Arts, Ogunquit Playhouse, Gateway Playhouse, Shadowland Stages, TheatreSquared, and Cortland Repertory Theatre.
On October 3rd, 2017, James Taylor Odom debuted as The D'YSQUITH FAMILY in the 2017/2018 National Touring Production of A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE & MURDER.
In August of 2018, Odom was in the U.S. Premiere of Grumpy Old Men: The Musical at Ogunquit Playhouse. The cast included Hal Linden, Sally Struthers, Mark Jacoby, Ed Dixon and others. The musical is based on the 1993 Warner Brother's Box office hit.
From 2018-2019, James traveled across North America in the National Tour of Jack O'brien's production of The Sound of Music. Odom played Admiral Von Schreiber and covered Captain Von Trapp as well as Max Detweiller.
In 2019 and 2021, James Taylor Odom reprised his role as The D'ysquith family in the Darko Tresnjak/Peggy Hickey production of A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder at Tuachan and Gateway Playhouse.
In 2022, James originated the role of Chaz in the newly revised Frank Wildhorn Musical Wonderland directed by Gabriel Barre.
Odom also appeared in the World Premiere Musical, It Came From Outer Space written by Joe Kinosian & Kellen Blair, commissioned by Chicago Shakespeare Theatre.
Upcoming in 2023, James will appear as Wadsworth in Clue at Gateway Playhouse with Sally Struthers.
